Update Custom Field Name

Hey Team,

I have a custom field that is for "departments." Recently two of our departments merged and I need to change it to be "e-commerce" instead of "Content Team." That's the easy part, the hard part is how do I do this for past projects so that at the end of the year I can pull an accurate number of projects that we did for that department?

In the past I've had to do it all manually but I'm hoping to avoid that. Appreciate your thoughts and recommendations, thank you.

@Aimee Reistad Are you re-naming the actual name of the custom field or are you trying to change one of the values/options within the custom field? Wasn't sure and wanted to ask. Re-naming the actual name of the custom field should automatically reflect the new name in all locations (except in Wrike Analyze, where you may need to manually update, if you're filtering by that field) BUT re-naming one of the values/options within the custom field is where the difficulty lies ....

Hi Aimee,

you could use a table view to rename all entries very easy, like in Excel. Just sort by your custom field and rename the first wrong entry. Then click and hold the right lower corner of this cell (there shoud appear a small blue dot) and drag this down over all other entries you wish to rename. That's it!

@Meredith Selden I'm renaming the name of one of the pieces in the custom field. So changing from "Content Team" to "E-commerce". It's a department drop down custom field.

I can create a report that shows the department export it and make it into an excel than change the name, and import it and it will auto change it all? Or how would that work?

I think you got me wrong. No Excel export is needed, just the table view in wrike.

Table View can be helpful to copy/paste or drag/drop to update when Filtering by that custom field value. It's difficult when it's a multi-select field and there are a multitude of combinations; it becomes super time consuming to manually update each one. I wished there were a Mass Edit or Automation Engine Rule we could use to change custom field values - then you could add the new one, run the mass edit or automation, and then remove the old one. We have thousands of active projects and we just had a similar scenario as @Aimee Reistad with a "name change" and trying to solve through even Wrike Integrate is proving difficult. Please please Wrike Product Team - this is such a pain for Admins and wrecks havoc on reporting!

I have the same issue right now. I would like to rename a value but have it automatically edit all instances instead of having to find all instances and manually rename

The table method is a passable workaround if there's only one field. But quickly becomes tedious when it's a multi-select field and we have 100s of tasks.
