Link description to custom text field

We have a few scenarios where we want people who have access to our public view be able to view our description. The only workaround I have found is to create a custom field with Text and put the description in there. is there any way to link the description to a custom text field, or is that possibly in the works? That way we don't need to duplicate text and efforts by typing it twice in both spots.

I like your idea, very interesting!

As a workaround you could set up a table view for the respective folders as default, where everyone can see (and edit) the custom field containing your description. Additionally you could write a hint into the description that information should be entered into that custom field.
