PDF comments viewable directly in Wrike

It would be nice if we were able to view PDF comments directly in Wrike (i.e. comments that are added directly to the PDF file, and then that PDF is uploaded to Wrike). Currently the only way it seems you can view these comments is to download the PDF file first. If you try to view in Wrike, all you can see are the highlighted areas, but not the actual comment itself.

I completely agree. My users are uploading PDF files with native comments and these are not visible within the Wrike view. You need to download to access the native comments, which isn't ideal. So it would be really helpful to have the ability to not only add comments etc directly within Wrike, but for Wrike to understand the native comments done prior to uploading

I know more people want this but there are multiple "original" posts so unfortunately all the people that want it isn't reflected in the upvotes of this particular "original" post. The reviews we do get messed up all the time because we have to rely on people using the 'edit' function even when just reviewing and hoping their system is setup correctly to open in Acrobat, not chrome.

It's been 5 years now during which several users have been asking for this function which is quite obviously extremely useful for proper collaboration. But it seems Wrike could not react on that during half a decade. - Is there any chance at all for an implementation of such a function? How many upvotes in how many years are required? Or should we rather look for a more effective solution for our team?

Hi @Rolf Schröder, thanks a lot for sharing your feedback. I understand it may be disappointing to see some of the suggestions, especially ones created a while back, not developed in Wrike. That's why I'd like to share some more info on how this forum works: it's based on votes and statuses, and at the same time, Wrike can't guarantee that all or even most of the suggestions will be implemented. As much as our Product team would love to work on the majority of the great suggestions our users are sharing with us, it's just not possible. Having said all that, we still find all the feedback we're receiving extremely useful and that's why we have this forum and the above-mentioned processes. Our team strives to dedicate some of its resources to customer-generated suggestions. For example, you can find some of the suggestions released last year that were Community-generated in this post. I hope this will give you a little bit more context around how we work with feedback from Community. Please let me know if there's anything I can help you with.

Thanks for your reply, Lisa. I know about Wrike's advantages, but after all, for me and many of my colleagues it is just a tool - not more, not less: We need it to work as efficiently as possible, but only a minority of us can take the time for participating in the improvement process. Thus, counting the upvotes for an original message written recently or long ago by some other slightly frustrated users appears to me as a rather vague method of determining the general users' practical needs.
From my point of view, the facts are quite clear:
- In many companies, pdf files have been established as a very important format for obtaining feedback on documents from colleagues.
- Wrike defines itself as a collaboration tool.
=> Thus, implementing the mentioned function seems to me to be a quite logical step.
=> What would really help me (and probably a number of other users) is a clear statement if and under which conditions such a function would be applied. But I know that this is probably too much to ask for...

On a related note, could you please let me know if you use Proofing at your company? It allows you to leave comments on files right inside Wrike.

Lisa, I know you asked Rolf Shroder the question regarding if he uses "Proofing" in Wrike. I know that we cannot as our labeling control change process requires Adobe Acrobat pdf redlines that must be kept and stored on our networks as part of traceability of change.

Hi Lisa, yes, we partially use the commenting functions within Wrike. However, you probably know what it's like when different internal and external people are involved in proofing processes: Some have access to Wrike but others don't, or they prefer (or, as Jeanine Lore said, are even forced) to work with Adobe's (or another pdf reading tool's) commenting function.
=> Thus, my conclusion stays the same: A software like Wrike, with a clear focus on collaboration, should at least allow for reading comments made in a pdf reading tool.
(A full compatibility including an export function of comments made in Wrike would be amazing, but currently, me and a lot of others would already be very glad about a one way solution.)

Lisa, another note to the is that even when using "edit" and opening\editing via Acrobat, we have problems since Wrike doesn't lock the file. We have multiple reviewers and have issues with people accidentally editing at the same time, not realizing anything except if they get an error when closing. Then they just version the file and overwrite what someone else may have done since they used "edit" and were working on the pdf.

Right now stakeholders are confused that they can't see PDF comments left with Adobe Acrobat and I need to tell them to download a copy to see it.

Tossing my name into this ring as well. Because our unit using Wrike is a small communications team working in a large organization (that mostly ISN'T using Wrike) - we almost always receive PDFs from our clients with comments already made in them (in Adobe Reader, etc). When we upload them to wrike - the PDF shows the comment icons, but you are not able to click them to view them - which is confusing for our team trying to use them because they then are able to click and add MORE comments in-wrike. It's a bit of a process disruption to have to download the file to view these comments and it'd make the whole thing so much smoother if it could all happen in-app.
