Changing the "Author" of a project

Hi, I would like to request that the "author" of a project can be changed. It seems at the moment, once someone creates a project, they are the "author" and it cannot be changed.

Sometimes the person who starts a project isn't always the person who is responsible for the project. For example, if someone is on a holiday when the project begins, a different person will create the schedule than the person who is the true owner of the schedule. Once the vacation is over, and the rightful project manager takes the project over, they aren't considered the author.

We also have our dashboards set up so we can monitor the tasks of our projects. But I don't see an easy way to follow the tasks of a project that you own, only if you are the author.

Hi Josh, what if you assign yourself as a project owner, or "follow" the project? (Similarly, you could also assign yourself to tasks or follow specific ones within that project, but it sounds like you'd prefer the project-level settings.) From there, you could pull projects you own into a dashboard widget (vs. projects you created, i.e. an author widget). From an authoring perspective, we actually find it useful to see who originally created a task/project and what his or her original content was. Hope that's helpful!

I agree with Josh and the solution posed by Caroline doesn't help our particular situation. We have a number of projects that were imported from another system. Because I did the import, it shows that I am the author and therefore not showing up correctly in various dashboards.

Agreed with Josh and Nancy. I tend to create projects for my team. When I do, all the tasks have me as the author. This makes it challenging for our user based dashboard as the custom unassigned widget we built looks for unassigned tasks the user created. Since I'm the author and it is really their project, the widget misses tasks I would like them to see. The only workaround is to tag each user's projects to a folder specifically for their projects, and adjust the widget to look specifically for unassigned tasks in that folder. Problem is that creates more work to tag projects, and each user has to create their own dashboard vs using our standard user based dash. Really hope the ability to change author is implemented soon. Wrike could log any change automatically to comments to preserve history.

I also have been importing projects for my team, so I get all the updates they make since I was the original author. I am now attempting to unfollow whenever I receive updates but it sure would be nice to change them to the author of their projects so the proper people are receiving updates without extra workarounds. 😊

There definitely seems that there should be a better way. As some create the projects for others, there are also those that leave a company and the project needs to be reassigned to a new owner or Author. @Lisa, the link you provided states the page does not exist.

this would be very useful, or add another field 'Owner' or 'Primary Stake Holder' that we can assign someone to.

My team regularly creates tasks and project on behalf of other users and this restriction makes it difficult to report on correctly and in some cases the original Owner gets forgotten.

I also agree it would be nice to be able to change the author.

In my case, I have a weekly report that is sent to the team. We have multiple project owners, but the I want the people who create the projects to be responsible for them. If I create a project for someone I'm not the one responsible. I'd like as the admin the ability to create the project, but then change the author to someone else.

Totally agree regarding being able to change the author.

For expediency sake, I sometimes enter projects for others and then reassign them. The system holds that I am the author when what I really need to see is who actually is assigned and responsible.

Hi Lisa,

We are a implementation based project management team. Therefore, all tasks are assigned to implementers as they are 'responsible' for the tasks, however, they will not be completing all the tasks themselves.

Please let me know if you have an existing use case for this scenario.

Thank you for getting back to me @Taylor Blue 🙂 It's possible to assign tasks to multiple team members, for example, the responsible person and the person who is going to be working on the task. Or, it's possible to create projects and assign them to the responsible team members, and then create tasks in these projects and assign them to those who are doing the work. It's also possible to have a task/subtask structure for this scenario.

I also support this function. Somebody just left the organisation and the problem is that all the tasks and projects that he was author of didn't transfer to the person who will take on his job. This is a big flaw since I can't show the dashboard correctly now.

Pieter, I agree with you about it issue being a big flaw. Last week I used the Automation Bot to create a rule that should notify the current project owner (that doesn't exist explicitly as a mentionable role/person), but when mentioning @autor it notifies someone no longer exists in the company. This new rule (that moves overdue tasks to another category when due date has passed) was applied to all of the projects in an specific workspace, so mentioning specific users or followers is not an option, as each project has a diferent project owner and also I don't want to create this rule for each project just changing the mentioned person in charge of it), as the interface for all rules is just a plain list and it's hard to manage it.

W're new on Wrike and setting up the environment. I forsee this could lead to big issues in the future, like Pieter and Ricado descriped, if this isn't tackled.
