How can we report rate of progress over time?

Hi!

Has anyone had success reporting on the Progress in a line chart over time? We'd like to show some of our high-visibility projects in a linear chart with Weeks on the X axis and Progress % as the value(s) on the Y axis. This will show where we have bursts and lulls in our progress rate. Because the projects' task count varies over time (and we have difficulty explaining this to higher leadership) the progress % is preferable over a classic burndown chart.

You can track progress in Wrike by using the custom dashboard and the "Progress" widget, though it won’t give you a line chart with weekly updates. If you need something more detailed, I’d recommend exporting the data to Excel or Google Sheets. Once you have the project info, you can calculate the progress for each week and create a line chart yourself.

If you want something more automated, you could use tools like Power BI or Tableau with Wrike’s API to pull the data and create real-time progress charts

Can you expand on how the projects' task count varies over time?

My initial thought was to ensure you have detailed tasks built in Wrike (and plenty of them), then have Wrike calculate progress based on task completion %. You could then glance at the progress % daily, weekly, etc. as needed and input the value into your own custom line chart in Excel. Manual updating, but not very time consuming at all as you're simply inputting a value into a cell.

@Cynthia Sperry, while I may not have the same level of expertise in Wrike Analyze as Ali Moses 😉, I wanted to share what I created using PowerPoint. 📊 I encountered a similar issue where I needed to display the number of days it took for our web translations to be returned for each sprint. In the chart, the X-axis represents the sprint dates, and the Y-axis shows the number of deliverables we submitted. Looks like I may need to beef up my Analyze skills! 😉

We have a control dashboard in Analyze that allows our Project Managers to see how many hours they still have on their projects and can drill down to a specific project.

Then we have a table that show us for each project the status, the total budget in hours we have, how many hours we have already planned, how many hours we have already spent and with color coding we can see if whether the project will meet the deadline or go over and exceed the estimated budget.

For those of us without the Analyze add-on, an option for a few projects would be to calendar the task to manually capture their progress % via report into Excel. That's better than using a series of custom fields across the horizon needed for reporting, right? Thanks for the peek across the fence at Analyze capabilities!
