How to query updated effort allocations total effort value

Hi all,
I’m building a Wrike Integrate (Workato) recipe and need a trigger that fires when a task’s effort allocation changes ( totalEffort from Tasks effortAllocation). I couldn’t find a suitable trigger in the Workato Wrike connector, and I also don’t see a Wrike webhook/API event that specifically fires on effort allocation updates.

Is there a supported way to detect effort allocation changes (via Workato connector triggers or Wrike REST API/webhooks)? If not, is there a recommended workaround that doesn’t require polling all tasks?

Hi Tim,

You're right—currently, there isn't a specific Webhook event or a native Wrike Integrate trigger that fires specifically when the effortAllocation field is updated.

However, I've found a reliable workaround using a "shadow" field:

Create a Calculated Custom Field (e.g., "Effort Tracker").
Set the formula to simply mirror the Effort value.
In Wrike Integrate, use the "New/Updated Task" trigger or subscribe to the TaskCustomFieldChanged webhook.

Why this works: When the effort allocation changes, the formula field recalculates automatically. This change in the Custom Field value triggers the webhook, allowing your recipe to fire instantly without the need for expensive polling across all tasks.

I’m also interested in this topic and was wondering if there’s some background on why changes to effort allocation don’t currently trigger an event.

For us, this field is quite important for project planning and reporting, so understanding whether this is a technical limitation, a product decision, or something that may evolve in the future would already be very helpful.

Thanks for the suggested workaround @Pietro Poli. Unfortunately, I can’t get it working.

I created a new custom formula field to track changes to the default Effort field, but updates to the formula field don’t trigger a TaskCustomFieldChanged event. The Workato Trigger (New event in Wrike Real-time with Event Task custom field changed does not seem to fire for the new field.

Maybe Basudha Sakshyarika can confirm wether Custom Fields of Type Formula are picked up by the Task custom field changed event.

Also, when I try to register a webhook for this new formula custom field via the API, I get the following error:

I just tried the workaround this morning, and indeed it doesn’t seem to be working.
The calculated custom field that mimics the effort field does get updated instantly in Wrike, but it doesn’t trigger the TaskCustomFieldChanged event.

Basudha has opened a support ticket regarding this issue. We’ll see where it leads us.

Any news on this? I am trying to use the custom field to trigger something else such as add a generic assignee to trigger the webhook. For some reason, I can't find the custom field in the automation trigger options.
