Formatting and links in “Add Comment or Mention” automation rules

Automations are a real time-saver in Wrike, but the “Add Comment or Mention” action is currently limited to plain text. It would be very useful to have basic formatting options here, particularly the ability to include clickable links.

For example, an automation could add a comment containing a link to a Microsoft Bookings or Calendly page so that recipients can book time if needed.

Support for simple formatting, such as hyperlinks or line breaks, would make automated comments clearer and more practical to use.

If anyone has found a workaround for including links in automated comments, I would be really interested to hear how you are handling this.

Hi @Jessica Carr 👋 thanks for posting!

As a partial workaround, you can paste the full URL (e.g. https://www.wrike.com/discover/) into the automation comment. Wrike will render that as a clickable link in the task’s comment stream and in most email notifications, and you can use line breaks to structure the message.

As you are aware, there isn’t currently a way to use anchor text (like “Book a call”), we’ve passed your feedback to the product team now, and will keep you posted if there are any further updates 👍

Thanks, @Rohan V. This is really helpful. I wasn't aware that by adding a url will render it into a clickable link. This is a helpful workaround until anchor text is available.

Just for reference linking via a full url isn't deemed to align with accessibility standards, specifically for those who use screen readers where a full url where it may be difficult to pronounce.

I upvoted your suggestion as I find too with the lack of simple formatting, automated comments can get very long, diluted, and sometimes miss the point.

For your point about handling links, it's not a total fix, but definitely a workaround I've been trying to implement as I go, is to use bitly links. It shortens links drastically and makes that part a little more digestible when incorporating them in not only automated comments, but areas like request forms where simple formatting/hyperlinking is not available!
