Dashboard or report or table view that contains projects with no associated tasks

I need to see a list of all projects that have no associated tasks and can't. If I set up a project based dashboard, there is no way to count associated tasks, and if I set up a task based dashboard, projects with no tasks don't show up. It seems like a really basic ask for a project management tool to be able to produce a report that shows how many active, deferred, cancelled and completed tasks are associated with each project

Hi @Amanda Jovaag, I also do not see a possibility in the Dashboards for this. But I see two other possibilities.

Perhaps you can use the automation: rule: project, if project has no subtasks 8or all subtasks are inactive) then set a custom field to "no tasks in projects". So you can report on this custom field.

Another possibility is Wrike Analyze. A Pivot Table with Project name and value COUNT(Task ID). That gives you a table for all projects with number of tasks in the project. You can filter for active and so on depending what you want to see.

Do you have access to Wrike Anlayze? Wrike Analyze can solve this cleanly because it reports directly from the dataset. You can build a report that shows:
-Projects
-Count of tasks by status
-Projects where task count = 0

That’s currently the only native way to get everything in one view I can think of.

Since you don't have access to Wrike Analyze, you can achieve this using a combination of Custom Fields and Automations. It requires a bit of one-time setup, but it works perfectly for Dashboards and Table views.

Here is the logic:

1. Create a Custom Field

Create a Numeric Custom Field called "Task Count". Ensure it is applied to Tasks, Folders, and Projects. In the field settings, set the Aggregation (roll-up) to "Sum" at the Folder/Project level.

2. Set up Automations

Create a few simple automation rules to manage that field:

Rule A: When a task is created or moved to an "Active" status $\rightarrow$ Change "Task Count" value to 1.
(You can also trigger these based on "Date added" or "Workflow changed").

3. The Result

Because the Project level is set to "Sum," it will automatically calculate the total of all active tasks underneath it.

If the Project "Task Count" = 0, the project is empty (or has no active tasks).
If the Project "Task Count" > 0, you know exactly how many active tasks are inside.

4. Reporting

Now you can go to your Table View or Dashboard, add the "Task Count" column, and filter for projects where the value is 0.

This gives you the visibility you need without needing the Analyze add-on!
