TL;DR: This week’s Template Tuesdays covers the Product Ideation Whiteboard template. It provides a visual workspace for product teams to gather reference context, brainstorm new features, and filter concepts using an effort-versus-impact prioritization matrix.
Hey Community 👋
Welcome back to Template Tuesdays!
This week we’re looking at the Product Ideation Whiteboard template, designed for product teams to collect feedback, run brainstorming sessions, and evaluate feature concepts in one place.
Key Features
- Central Context Hub: Displays existing backlogs, customer feedback, and documentation next to your active workspace.
- Session Alignment Controls: Dedicated fields to outline the session name, objective, target audience, and strategic goals before starting.
- Prioritization Matrix: A 2x2 grid to sort ideas based on effort and business impact.
💡 Installation: Access this template via this LINK. You can add it to a new space or install it into an existing space using our step-by-step guide. Plus, thanks to a recent Wrike Labs release, you can now map template configurations (such as Custom Fields) directly to your existing space setup during installation to avoid creating duplicates!
Whiteboard Structure
The template is divided into two main visual sections:
1. Collective Hub (Left Section)
Use this area to pull in relevant background details before starting the ideation session:
- Existing Product Idea Backlog: Embed Wrike widgets to display current backlogged tasks.
- Top Recurring Customer Pain Points: Insert Wrike widgets showing customer feedback or support trends.
- Product / Reference Documents: Drag and drop relevant specs, research, or reference files directly onto the board.
2. Product Ideation Workspace (Right Section)
This side is organized for active brainstorming and screening:
- Header Fields: Fill in the Name, Objective, Audience, and Strategy / Goals for the session.
- Existing Idea Backlog: Import existing Wrike tasks directly onto the board for review.
- New Idea Brainstorming: Use the provided sticky notes to add new ideas and enhancements.
- Ideas to Formally Screen: Drag sticky notes into the 2x2 quadrant (Distractions, Strategic, Luxury, High Value) organized by More/Less Effort and More/Less Impact.
Practical Applications
- Sprint Planning & Feature Discovery: Review incoming feature requests and align on development priorities.
- UX & Design Reviews: Evaluate solutions for documented user pain points against feasibility constraints.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Gather input from support, product, and engineering on roadmap items.
Operational Tips
- Convert Notes to Tasks: Once sticky notes are placed in the High Value or Strategic quadrants, turn them directly into Wrike tasks with assignees and due dates.
- Keep Data Live: Connect dynamic Wrike widgets in the hub so the board reflects current project data automatically.
