Exclude project tasks when viewing a single list of tasks

Is it possible when viewing a single list of tasks from a set of nested folders and projects, to exclude (filter out) the tasks that are within a project as opposed to just being in a folder. For example:

MISC (parent folder)
.....Social Media (child folder)
.........SM_task_001
.........Facebook (project)
.............FB_task_001

When viewing MISC as a single list of tasks, I want to see SM_task_001 but don't want to see FB_task_001, which is within a project. Seems to be no way to exclude project tasks thru filtering.

If you have SM_task_001 and FB_task_001 as Separate Item Types then you could filter by the Type of task you want to see.

SM_task_001 and FB_task_001 are both tasks. Unless I'm misunderstanding your suggestion, the Item Types filter doesn't seem to allow me to distinguish between tasks in a folder vs tasks in a project. They are still both just tasks. Can you clarify if I'm missing something here? Thanks!

At the moment, it is not possible to exclude tasks that are within a project when viewing a single list of tasks from a set of nested folders. I think what @Tiffany Sands is suggesting is to create a CIT for one or the other of the tasks, just to use for sorting. Duplicate the settings of your Task layout and create a CIT that is something like "Loose Task" or "Project Task". Then use that when creating the tasks. You'd be able to filter out the ones you need to see.

@Marc Charnow @Steve Mruskovic is on the right path to what I was thinking. Basically if you have the specific tasks as a sep Item Type you should be able to filter for that type.

I have done this for our content assignments.

The key is to 'Expand All' so that all your folders are open, but you will then see the tasks you want.
