Custom Fields in User Profiles: Released to All Pinnacle Accounts 🎉

Custom fields can now be used to add unique attributes and skills to your team’s user profiles. With these fields, you can track important information and details specific to your team, making it easier to manage resources effectively.

For example, if a task requires someone with specific skills, the system can suggest the best person for the job based on their skills and availability. Plus, you can filter through your team members based on these attributes to see who's available and most qualified to work on certain tasks. This way, you can manage workloads more efficiently and ensure tasks are assigned to the right people.

You can also report on this data in Dashboards in order to identify skill gaps, review team capacity and utilization, control cost center allocation, or overview company structure.

New Dashboards: Parameters 🚀

Tired of duplicating dashboards just to tweak filters? No more! Our new interactive parameters make dashboards controllable by the user, reducing the need for copies. For example, with the Project Portfolio dashboard, you can now add a parameter for the Product Type custom field and get a drop-down at the top to filter projects by product type. Want to see the portfolio for any Project Manager? Simply parameterize by Assignee.

By default, all widgets are controlled by dashboard parameters, but you can exclude them through widget settings. This initial release allows parameterization by Assignee and single- and multi-select custom fields, with more options coming soon. Try it out and share your feedback!

Table View: Wrap Text 🔥

Unlock enhanced data visibility with our 'Wrap Text' feature in Table View. You can now effortlessly view longer content in Name and Text Custom Fields while maintaining compact layouts. Customize your data display, improve readability, and streamline workflows.

You can wrap text using the column menu in Table View. This feature is available for the Name column and any text custom fields.

Please note, it is not supported in New Dashboards at the moment.

This is all great! I'm really excited about Dashboard parameters. Is there any chance that this feature will be available for text custom fields? We have an custom field for Project IDs, and it would be a game changer if we could filter dashboards based on that.

I am stoked for the Dashboard Parameters! We use Dashboards to create live reports the leadership team can access at anytime. I'm always having to duplicate the dashboard to recreate for various teams, date ranges, etc - and this saves me SO much time!

IE: the monthly copy team report that has 8-10 widgets I'd have to duplicate each month and change every widget individually to the new data ranges. (our team likes the historical view so I can't use the easier "Last Month" options).

The parameters on the new dashboards is a real game-changer and has been a hit in our PMO. I'm in the middle of implementing a new 'RAID' dashboard taking advantage of all the new features. A few things:

It's a shame there's currently a limit of three parameters - I hope this might change in the near future? In our use case, risk owner, risk category, risk response, proximity, impact, risk status are all custom fields in our RAID item type that various members of the PMO (PMs, Programme managers, BAs etc) might want to filter the dashboard by.
I know my PMs would love to see a parameter that could filter the RAID dashboard to their individual projects. Is there a way we can have a parameter for 'path' or 'location' or 'data source' etc maybe? My current workaround would be working with each PM to create a tailored dashboard for each of their projects - which would be quite time consuming for both myself and the PMs, as well as clog up the ever-growing list of dashboards that we already have.
We've noticed a bug where you'd set a new parameter and click into a metric on a widget (eg, a pie chart), but the resulting table might still pull results from before the parameter was set - this is usually fixed with a refresh.
Quite a long shot, but we'd love to see dashboards created from blueprints in the same way custom items are - for instance, when a new project is created, then a corresponding dashboard with pre-defined widgets is created - I'm sure this might take a fair bit of dev work but just wanted to declare interest in this.

Jonathan, thanks for your feedback!
1 - We decided to start with the limit of 3 parameters and adjust based on the feedback. The challenge with too many parameters is that they all may not fit in a single row that poses additional complexity. As an alternative you may have different sections as an alternative views like "By risk category" with filters by the corresponding fields available.
2 - Parameterization by location is on our roadmap and coming relatively soon
3 - It would be helpful if you file a ticket with the support so we can take a look
4 - It's something we are thinking of but have no clear plans yet. The reason is that dashboards (tools) do not belong to a work graph and reside in spaces. When the parameterization by location will be available we think it will be less of an issue because it would be possible to set up a single dashboard for all projects created from a blueprint and switch between them on the fly

Left comments on a couple other related threads but also posting here for visibility.

Will the next release for Dashboard Parameters include date-based filtering?

For example, we really need to be able to easily parse out things like "projects completed with in xx timeframe", like last 12 months, last year, this year, last 3 months, this quarter, last quarter.

Jonathan and others, we have just released an update that enables parameterization by location. It's now possible to have a single dashboard as a template and switch over different projects on the fly.

Amy, date-based parameters are on our radar, but not a top priority at the moment.

@[Deleted User] Thank you! This is such a great feature. This allows us to have a general project dashboard, but then using parameters can select a folder to be able to view the progress in a particular stage. This saves us so much time!

I absolutely love parameters, but I found a potential improvement. I have a dashboard with multiple sections - but the parameter only affects the first page (that is where I set the parameter). We would have to add the parameter to each page of the dashboard manually. This can easily be missed. Any chance of having the parameter affect the entire dashboard in the future?

Ashley, we currently have no such plans, and dashboard sections are supposed to be independent of each other. However, if we receive enough feedback, we may change that in the future.

Use Cases:
-Team could report on all items with a certain value in a text custom field
-Finance team could use a dashboard for all billing items Completed on certain day....
