Automation via Filter on Task Name

Question

One issue that my team has been running into is being able to create automations that target specific tasks. For example, when the task "Hold Initial Planning Call" is completed, the checkbox for "Initial Call" on the project level is marked. I've done workarounds for other tasks, such as setting the importance as high or low, but I've quickly run out of options to apply to all of the different use cases we want and am left with having to execute changes manually. If there are any suggested workarounds that can target tasks I'd love to hear them, otherwise this is a product suggestion that would be a game-changer for us!

If this task is always being launched from a blueprint and you’re the consistent creator, one possible workaround would be to make the “Hold Initial Planning Call” its own Custom Item Type. Automations can target a specific CIT, which would give you a reliable way to zero in on that task without relying on the name of the task or importance fields.

If CITs aren’t an option, another approach would be to double tag at the blueprint level, for example, using a dedicated folder called “Hold Initial Planning Call”, and applying it to that single task only. Automations can then be applied to that single location instead of the task name.

As a bonus from a governance perspective, either approach would also allow you to build a dashboard widget focused just on this task type or folder, which can be helpful for visibility and oversight across project iterations.

Hopefully one of those gets you closer to what you’re trying to achieve.
