TL;DR: You can now build programme and portfolio timelines natively in Gantt - link projects with cross-project dependencies, see milestones on project bars, use a milestones-only PERT-style view, and get clearer delay info plus inbox notifications when a dependency changes.
Hello Community!
We're excited to share that you can now build programme and portfolio timelines natively in Gantt, linking projects together and tracking them on one timeline with easy visibility of milestones. This has been one of the most requested capabilities on the Community especially and we're glad to finally bring it to you.
✨ What's new
- Project dependencies – Link projects directly to each other in Gantt or from the item view, the same way you'd link tasks today. Change a date on one project, and you'll see how it affects the ones connected to it.
- Milestones on project bars – Every milestone in a project now shows directly on its bar, so key dates across your whole program are visible without opening each project one by one.
- Show milestones only – A new chart display setting that hides project and task bars, leaving just the milestones on their rows with the dependency lines between them. If you've ever built a PERT style network in a spreadsheet to track a program, this gives you that same view natively in Gantt. It's a display setting, not a filter, so nothing about your data or structure changes, it only changes what's shown on the chart, and you can switch it off any time.
- Clearer downstream impact – When an upstream project's dates change, the downstream project now shows which project caused it and roughly how much delay it introduced, instead of just a general conflict flag.
- Inbox notifications – Project owners now get notified right in their Wrike inbox when a project they depend on changes status, so they know as soon as they're unblocked instead of having to check manually.
How rescheduling works for Project Dependencies.
For this first release, dependent projects in the chain aren't rescheduled automatically, you'll see the conflict and delay information instead, so nothing changes without you choosing it. When you change a parent project's dates and it has sub-projects, we'll ask whether to shift those sub-projects along with it.
Availability. These capabilities are available on Pinnacle and Apex plans.
