Workaround to copy subtasks from one task to another

I see posts going all the way back to 2017 requesting the basic functionality of copying/pasting tasks from one task to another. Since this is not possible, what are your workarounds for this?

To be clear, I'm trying to copy some subtasks from one task to another. But I have about 80 tasks that need these same subtasks copied under them. The fastest way seems to be exporting the data, copying/pasting the lines for the subtasks in the Excel file for import, and importing that Excel file. Any other ideas?

Hi @Karen Sudre, is not clear, for me why you have to copy and paste all these tasks.

But if you need only to add, some subtask to some task, you can do it by automations and blueprints.

You can create one or more task blueprints and add as subtask to a specific task by changing, for example a custom property.

In Wrike, there’s still no native feature to copy/paste subtasks directly from one task to another in bulk.

That said, aside from your idea of exporting to Excel, editing, and reimporting, there are a few other ways to speed this up:

Duplicate a “template” task

Create a template task with all the subtasks you need.
For each of your 80 tasks, instead of starting from scratch, duplicate the template and move the subtasks under the target task.
Use "Duplicate" → uncheck options like copy comments/files if you don’t need them.

Thank you, both! There are so many possible use cases for needing to copy/paste tasks or subtasks (hence the large amount of posts on this topic over the years). Blueprints and automations are definitely useful - but in my most recent specific case, there were 80 existing tasks and I didn't want to create new ones and lose the data (comments, files, etc) associated with those tasks. What I ended up doing was importing all the subtasks and manually moving them into each of the 80 existing tasks - it was painful but I guess it was faster than if I had to create them all manually, and probably even faster than duplicating a template 80 times.
